Kid Gleason |
Week 21 is in the
books, and what a week it was. There wasn't much in the way of a shift in the
standings, but more the effect of 63 games being played in seven days as the
late-season rush to get the games in is in full swing. The AL will finish after
week 24, so in this past week the teams that were behind in games played were
able to make up ground where they were behind. The AL teams average 118 games
played after Week 21, so 22 remaining in their final three weeks. The NL has a
lot more disparity - Cincinnati has 111 games played, Chicago 121, but while
they too are rushing to get their final games played, the NL does have an extra
Week 25 to get this done.

Kid Elberfeld |
The 1901 Detroit
Tigers had three "Kids" on their team: second baseman Kid Gleason,
shortstop Kid Elberfeld, and left fielder Kid Nance. Of the three, Gleason is
probably the most famous - unfortunately, he was the manager of the 1919
Chicago White Sox. I couldn’t find a picture of Nance, but I did find a team
picture with him included.
A short write-up
this week. This has been fun, but the end is in sight and I want to keep moving.
