Week 15 Summary

Week 15 is in the books and what a difference a week makes. Last week ended with both leagues having multiple teams in close proximity to first place but this week ended with the league leaders enjoying a little breathing room. 1901 Cleveland Blues In the AL, Chicago continues to play well and any stumble that second-place Boston makes is therefore somehow amplified, plus third-place Detroit, in the middle of a nine-game winning streak has drawn to within three games of second place. The Tigers knocked around the second division for most of the first half of the season but have suddenly had their pitching and hitting come together as they have made their charge up the standings. Baltimore is still holding on to fourth place, but their cracks are starting to show as they still have three starters disabled. Pittsburgh now has a 5.5 game lead over Philadelphia as the Phillies and third place Brooklyn took turns knocking each other down in the standings this past week. Fourt

Monday, July 22, 1901 As seen on the telegraph: Chicago (NL) announced that outfielder Frank Chance would stay behind on the Orphans upcoming trip to St. Louis due to an undisclosed injury. Milwaukee announced the release of catcher Joe Connor . Cincinnati announced the release of infielder Chink Heileman . Boston (NL) announced the acquisition of first baseman/outfielder Duff Cooley from Syracuse (Eastern League). Cooley is expected to play first base until Fred Tenney returns from his injury. Baltimore announced the return of outfielder Jim Jackson from his leg injury of 07/18/1901. Note: The NL east teams returned home from their western swing.
